Anticipating Dolly
I am engaged in a rhythmic analysis of various recorded performances of the song “Hello Dolly” in order to address different singers’ varying anticipation or delay of the beat during vocal entrances.
Here is the first fruit of these efforts, an abstract accepted for the Joint Meeting of the Pacific Southwest and Northern California Chapters of the American Musicological Society, May 6–7, 2006, University of California, Berkeley.
